Use Case: Automated Measurement and Quality Inspection
Industry: Medical technology
Question and challenge:
For a global pharmaceutical and consumer goods manufacturer, Plan B developed and engineered an automated system for measuring and quality testing tissue strips in accordance with strict FDA standards. The automation solution includes manufacturing, assembly and commissioning in the cleanroom, including production support. Challenges lay in the low cycle time as well as the high quality and accuracy requirements.
About the plant – key features and functions:
- Cleanroom and FDA Compliance: Use of low-particulate emission-emitting materials.
- Precision: Optical measurement with camera systems and multispectral analysis (RGB infrared, transmitted light) for the detection of the smallest impurities and tissue defects.
- Efficient processing: Cycle time of 5.4 seconds per fabric strip, including inspection and transfer to a component tray.
- Automated handling: A 4-axis robot with a suction tire takes over the exact positioning of the components on a rotary indexing table.
- Testing processes:
o Dimensional determination of the component.
o Error analysis in fabric meshes using white and transmitted light.
o Checking the component position with infrared sensors. - Additional features: Automated stacking of trays as well as alignment of components and beams.
The system combines high speed, accuracy and compliance with strict safety and quality specifications.
